Module 1: The Prone Position
The Base
The prone position is supported by a tripod that is made with the elbows, body, and the sling.
The left arm supports the rifle on an approximately 45 degree angle.
The arm stays in a straight line and does not tip in either direction.
The sling attaches to the left arm and sits above the bicep.
The other end of the sling attaches to the handstop.
The arm wraps around the sling and the hand rests directly against the hand stop.
The sling is angled so that it is in line with the centre of the elbow.
The athlete simply rests forward into position with the butt plate going into the pocket of the right shoulder.
The sling is tight enough to support the weight of the rifle, as m
uscles fatigue quickly, causing movement in the sight picture.
The sling, rifle, and shoulders stabilize the position.
The angle of the forearm supporting the rifle must stay within the rules.
