Module 4: The Five Principles
2. Natural Alignment
Natural alignment refers to the athlete being able to use the bone structure and equipment to aim at the target naturally.
How an athlete adjusts their natural alignment differs on the position.
The Prone Position
The athlete pivots around the left elbow.
To adjust for height, the athlete moves the hips forward to move the muzzle down.
To move the muzzle up, the athlete adjusts the hips backward.
The athlete adjusts the hips left to move the muzzle to the right.
The athlete adjusts the hips to the right to adjust the muzzle to the left.
Pivot around the elbow by adjusting the hips
The Kneeling Position
To adjust the natural point of aim vertically, the athlete should adjust the height of the butt plate.
For permanent height adjustments, add filling to the kneeling roll to point the muzzle down, or remove filling to get more height.
To adjust the position horizontally, the toes of the front foot can be adjusted left and right.
To make large adjustments, the athlete should readjust the entire position by getting up and moving the kneeling roll.
Adjust the feet or butt plate
The Standing Position
To adjust the rifle vertically, the athlete can increase or decrease the width of their feet.
For large vertical adjustments, the athlete should move the butt plate up and down.
To move the natural point of aim of the rifle horizontally, the athlete should adjust the feet forward and backward.
To make smaller adjustments left and right, the athlete can move their toes in their boots.
The athlete should adjust the entire position to make substantial changes to the natural point of aim.
Adjust the feet for angle and height
